The National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA) has partnered with Mapei to host a free webinar on "5 Tips to Save Time & Money for Tile/Stone Installation," taking place Tuesday, August 15 at 1:00 p.m. (CDT).

With the growing diversity of options in tile and stone, understanding that a “one size fits all” approach can be costly has never been more important. While not all tile or stone needs to be sealed or pre-treated prior to installation, the everyday issues faced by tile and stone contractors’ pose constant challenges.

Among them are the potential for grout staining and / or hazing — these issues cost time and money and now must be considered in both the bid and bottom line. Other related consequences to be considered are overwatering grout to make it easier to float, over washing to remove hazing which can lead to grout discoloration, low joints, and ultimately an unhappy customer. Also, microtexture on some porcelain tile can prove to cost time and money if not considered — and addressed properly — prior to grouting.

Knowing the specific characteristics of the materials being used, including the type of stone and tile is the key to success. Understanding what, how, and when to implement these tips to ensure success and profitability will lead to a better finished project, satisfied customers and repeat business for years to come.

The presentation will ask participants to:

 1. Identify some of the most common problems associated with installing tile and stone as it relates to installation such as material characteristics and qualities.

2. Consider the importance of mockups and testing prior to installation.

3. Know when and why certain tile/stone should be sealed prior to installation and what sealers really do and don’t do.

4. Learn the difference between a pre-sealer and grout release.

5. Determine the need for grout rinse water additives to help reduce grouting time and difficulty and ease the installation process.
