Evergreen Nylon Recycling has been named Recycler of the Year by the Plastics Recycling Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers. The award was presented at the society's Annual Recycling Conference in Dearborn, Mich. More than 35 companies competed for the award this year. Past winners include IBM Corp., Ford Motor Co., and Hewlett-Packard.
A joint venture of Honeywell International Inc. and DSM Chemicals North America Inc., Evergreen Nylon Recycling uses a jointly developed, patented technology that converts post-consumer nylon 6 carpet and other nylon 6 wastes into caprolactam, the raw material used to make nylon 6. Type 6 nylon is used in such applications as residential and commercial carpet, engineering plastics, automotive parts, sporting goods, films, and packaging.
