Unemployment rate drops to its lowest level in seven months

WASHINGTON -- The Labor Department reported today that unemployment fell to 5.6 percent of the labor force in September, its lowest rate in seven months.

The 5.6 percent seasonally adjusted overall jobless rate was down from 5.7 percent in August, but a separate report measuring labor market health showed 43,000 fewer jobs.
