Shaw to construct laminate plant

Shaw Industries has outlined its plans to build a new laminate manufacturing facility. Construction of the plant represents the first step in Shaw's plan to manufacture the hard surface flooring.

Upon completion, the facility will be capable of producing tongue-and-groove flooring, glueless products and corresponding molding pieces. The plant initially will have an annual manufacturing capacity of 150 million square feet, with expansion capacity of more than 300 million square feet.

The 230,000-square-foot plant will be built in the former Ringgold South Distribution Center in Ringgold, Ga. The company expects construction to finish in the spring of 2002. The plant will employ approximately 100 people.
