Nearly 200 attendees attend INSTALL training center grand opening
Representatives from all facets of the floor covering industry helped launch the International Standards and Training Alliance’s (INSTALL) newest floor covering installation training center in St. Louis.
Nearly 200 gathered at the Nelson-Mulligan Carpenters’ Training Center, home of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC) Local 1310. The heart of the event included observation of INSTALL skill block training for second-, third- and fourth-year apprentices.
Event attendees watched students complete intricate cuts in ceramic, and diagram and dry-lay a herringbone hardwood floor. Carpet students practiced power-stretching techniques while resilient apprentices began their skill block on pattern scribing.
A large portion of the recent $8 million in renovations to the Nelson-Mulligan center provides dedicated sections for carpet, resilient, hardwood, ceramic, sand and finish, and laminate classrooms and hands-on instruction. In all, INSTALL floor covering training accounts for more than 24,000 square feet of the center. About 350 INSTALL apprentices are in training in St. Louis.
