Fulfilling a long time goal of expanding its non-floorcovering operations, the 60-year old custom carpet specialist Stark Carpet Corp. said it has added two leading textile and wallcovering firms. The upscale New York-based company said it has finalized the acquisition of Grey Watkins and Fonthill, Ltd. Each company markets decorative fabrics for the wall. Terms were disclosed.

In a joint statement, chairman John Stark and president Steven Stark said the newly acquired companies were a good fit. "For some time we have contemplated expanding our textile and wallcoveing divisions and we concluded that Fonthill and Grey Watkins would provide the perfect complement to our Old World Weavers and Stark Wallcovering divisions."

The top executives at the two newly acquired companies will continue as directors of design for their respective divisions.
