Reptile ceramic tile from Kale Group is inspired by reptile scales.

Inspired by the scintillating scales of alligators and crocodiles, the Reptile Collection of ceramic tile from Kale Group recently received the 53rd Annual Design Review award. This honor was given by design publication I.D. Magazine, which looks for the best designs in eight categories including consumer products, furniture, graphics and the environment. Nine countries took part in the competition.

One of the judges, Matilda McQuaid, said she was impressed by the look of the Reptile collection. “As a grouping, with the interlocking system and overall texture, this would have a transformative effect on a room,” said the head of the textiles department at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York City.

Reptile was created by Turkish product design Can Yalman for Kale Group’s popular Canakkale Kalebodur & Seramik brand. Since 2006, Reptile has garnered two other design awards: the international ETMK Winners by Design award and Elle Décor’s International EDIDA award.
