Specialty Construction Brands, Inc. has announced the introduction of the TEC® Estimator™, a web-based program designed to help retailers and/ or distributors “quickly, accurately determine details of setting materials for any tile or stone project,” the company says.

The TEC Estimator is a secure, self-guided, interactive program that helps users select the appropriate installation systems, determine quantities and finalize costs of the products used. “For retailers in need of increased selling opportunities, the TEC Estimator is a valuable tool to encourage end-user participation and investment in the setting materials selection process. Showroom salespeople will find this tool simple to use and extremely helpful in simplifying the setting material determination and purchasing process,” the company notes.

The system is accessible with any Internet connection, though users must acquire secure log-ins for staff members through TEC. Once logged in, users simply walk through quick-response questions to determine preferences, size and scope of the installation project.

The system then recommends the proper installation system, and quantities needed for the job. Utilizing the retailer’s pricing, the Estimator provides a full price quote and job spec summary on a thorough, easy to read print-out complete with the retailer’s logo.

“Very often, the tile setting material sale is left to the contractor-but that means lots of untapped selling opportunities for retailers,” explains Brand Manager Kristin Cattaneo. “By making setting material selection so simple and accurate with the Estimator, we’re giving retailers the chance to make the most of every moment in the selling process.”

Cattaneo also reports that a recent survey of retailers indicated clearly the value and importance of tile setting materials in sales opportunities. When retailers were asked to state strength of agreement to the statement “It’s worthwhile to include tile setting materials as part of the tile sale to increase profits,” 52% strongly agreed, and 38% agreed. Retailers often report the hindrance to more setting material sales is the challenges in estimating systems and quantities due to salespeople’s uncertainly of the category. The Estimator directly addresses this issue.
