Centiva presented a range of Green Week events during the month of April. They included:

A Green Week kick-off day with guest speaker, Ben Maharrey from Florence Utilities. He discussed the ability of purchasing green power credits, solar power opportunities, and power conservation with employees.

Centiva employees volunteered their time to the city of Florence, Ala., and also to the Centiva adopted street of Mars Hill Rd. to pick up litter during their Clean and Green day.

A “brown bag contest” where a local community elementary school was given a lesson on what Earth Day is and how it is applicable to their life. Students were then asked to draw an Earth Day picture on a brown grocery bag that was donated by a local grocery store. A pizza party was given to each grade level finalist and the overall winner was awarded a Nintendo DS. The overall winning design will also be Centiva’s 2012 Earth Day T-shirt design. All brown bags were returned to the local grocery store to be re-used by their clients on Earth Day.

A Dirty Sock contest to check car emissions was held in the company parking lot in Florence. Each employee placed a clean white sock on the muffler of their car. The cars were turned on and allowed to run for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sock to catch any exhaust. The car that had the dirtiest sock won a free car tune-up and the cleanest sock received a car wash and detail.

Centiva sponsored Shoals Earth Day Fest, a community education program and festival to promote environmental awareness and advocacy in the Florence area.

A tree planting of over 100 trees.

Centiva donated $3,000.00 to the city of Florence to purchase recycle bins, which will be given away free to local residents who make a pledge to recycle.
