Situation

Kaiser Permanente is recognized as one of America’s leading health care providers and not-for-profit health plans. Founded in 1945, its mission is to provide high-quality, affordable health care services and to improve the health of members and the communities they serve.

The 50-year-old Bellflower Kaiser Permanente Pediatrics building and parking lot required complete demolition and renovation. Hospital administrators wanted to create a friendly, welcoming environment for the children and families who visit. They also desired a well-organized and designed medical facility.

Solution

During the renovation process, severely gouged and cracked floors were discovered on the third floor. ARDEX Sales Professional Jeff Mason worked with JJJ Floor Covering installers to recommend products to repair and level uneven floors. A layer of ARDEX P 51TM Primer was used to prep the floor to receive ARDEX LU 100TM Self-Leveling Flooring Underlayment. When mixed with water, ARDEX LU 100 is pourable or pumpable, seeks its own level and produces a smooth, flat, hard surface. As a final step, ARDEX FEATHER FINISH® Self-Drying, Cement-Based Finish Underlayment was used to patch floors. JJJ Floor Coverings was extremely impressed with the results stating the floor was so flat ‘you could play billiards on it.’ This project won gold and bronze 2013 Design Awards from Starnet Flooring.
