We see some of the same uncertainties that were experienced in 2009 being prevalent in 2010. However, we anticipate certain commercial markets will still be strong with the quantity and quality of projects, such as the healthcare & assisted-living markets and the education market.

For our company, the last quarter of 2009 showed some improvement over earlier in the year. We hope this is the light at the end of the recession tunnel.

The National Association of Floor Covering Distributors, in association with the North American Building Material Distribution Association recently published its Fall 2009 Economic Outlook Report, in which analysts summarized the market in the following terms: “Existing Home Sales are definitely on the rise and the Remodeling Market Index is in the early stages of recovery. The worst is yet to come in the Nonresidential markets.”

There is a strong consensus that 2010 will continue to present a challenging climate, including the continued decline of the commercial business, though not as much as we saw it decline in 2009.

It truly has been what we hope is a once-in-a-lifetime economic situation and as a result we do not see the climate improving as quickly as it may have in the past with more cyclical recessions.

Consumers will continue to look for value, as well as having concern for the total environment. Retailers can benefit by assorting their floors with differentiated products to meet the ever-changing moods and minds of the consumer.

The outlook for 2010 will still be very challenging. Overall, we anticipate growth for the industry as a whole will be flat. ARDEX and HENRY® will remain as aggressive, as we were in 2009 with continued product innovation and the release of 20 new products.
