I’m not overly optimistic 2010 is going to be much better than 2009. Consumer spending constitutes about two-thirds of the Gross National Product, and right now high unemployment has spooked the consumer into saving, not spending.

We agree that 2009 was a tough year for almost everyone. However, we introduced a few products at Surfaces in 2009 that gained some pretty good traction.

All indicators point to a slow recovery and there is no crystal ball to give us any definitive timetable. Certainly easing of raw material, fuel, and energy costs are key factors, and they must occur to bring the flooring industry back into balance. Often dealing with this type of adversity makes a company much stronger and profitable in the long run.
