Commenting on the Oct. 10 fire that severely damaged Anderson's Clinton, S.C., flooring plant, company CEO Don Finkell told National Floor Trends "we were very fortunate, due to the heroic efforts of our employees and local firefighters, to have been able to contain the blaze to only half of the Clinton plant."
Nearly half of Anderson Hardwood Floors' plant in Clinton, S.C. was destroyed by fire Tuesday evening. No employees were hurt in the blaze, but a firefighter was treated for shortness of breath. Company president Don Finkell said the fire, which was discovered at about 7:15 pm by an employee, destroyed the veneer grading, pressing and panel sawing areas. No employees were injured.

Custom Building Products announced recently that it has purchased Aqua Mix Inc., the 26-year-old tile and stone care products maker based in Corona, Calif. According to Custom, based 40 miles west in Seal Beach, plans call for Aqua Mix to retain its name and current management team. Other terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
In what the flooring maker heralded as "an exciting day," Armstrong World Industries announced it has emerged from bankruptcy. The company's fourth and final plan of organization, confirmed by the U.S. District Court in August and effective today, marks the end of nearly six years under Chapter 11 protection as the result of asbestos-related litigation. The plan calls for Armstrong to create a trust to compensate both current and future asbestos-related claimants, as well as a reorganization of the company's board of directors.
