Did you happen to catch that wonderful segment on eco-friendly flooring that debuted recently on two cable TV networks? It is sponsored by the World Floor Covering Association and started running on the WE Channel on Sept. 5 and on The Learning Channel show, Designing Spaces, the following day.

The eight-minute segment presented by Bridget Daly, Designing Spaces correspondent and design expert and Creating Your Space exec Kerry Davis, covers cork, linoleum, resilient, carpet, stone, ceramic and hardwood flooring. Taped in a beautiful new home in Moorpark, Calif., this segment is a big plus for our industry. It’s very informative, particularly for homeowners considering a new floor. In addition to discussing the specific attributes of different types of flooring, the segment looks at the role of environmental footprints. It even offers viewers a definition of what “green” really means for flooring. The wfca.org website is mentioned as a source of unbiased flooring information. Perhaps most important, viewers are urged to seek the assistance of a flooring covering specialist if they want it done right.

I think we all owe a tip of the hat to the WFCA for taking a leadership role in the important area of consumer education. More and more consumers are watching these home improvement programs and looking for tips on how to be environmentally responsible when remodeling or buying a new home. This is exactly the type of promotion the flooring industry needs--now more than ever.

If you missed it, don’t worry. The segment will be aired again dozens of times. The WFCA says it is expected to reach at least 4 million viewers. For a sneak peak, here’s a link on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjBJ13KAuzs.
