Flooring Plus in Murrells Inlet, S.C., a member of American Home Surfaces Group, is adapting to the new normal facing flooring retailers across the country by remaining flexible in how it does business. 

According to co-owner Diana Tomkins, after initial stay-at-home orders were issued and as an essential business in South Carolina, they decided to keep their newly renovated showroom open by appointment only. However, after a growing number of appointment requests, they decided to open for walk-ins as well.

"If people are shopping in this environment, they are serious about buying and they will purchase if they walk though our door!” Tomkins said. 

The team still encourages appointments but have closed some nice sales from walk-ins since reopening, she said. They have also been utilizing their new virtual showroom for customers that want to shop online.

Builder and commercial sales people continue to work remotely and business remains strong, Tomkins said. In addition, she said she anticipates that May and June may bring some challenges before business picks up in the second half of 2020 and that the store will emerge stronger than ever.
