James T. Lucke has joined Mohawk Industries as vice president and general counsel. He succeeds Sal Perillo, who is retiring. Lucke most recently served as senior vice president, secretary and general counsel of Spectrum Brands (formerly Rayovac) in Atlanta, an organization with $3 billion in worldwide sales.

Lucke, who will be based at Mohawk headquarters in Calhoun, Ga.,

also spent eight years at Johnson Controls, which markets the DieHard and Energizer brands. He began his career with the Milwaukee law firm Quarles and Brady. From there, he became the corporate counsel for Case Corp., a manufacturer of farming and construction equipment.

“The broad base of Jim’s legal knowledge and his experience in a culture of rapid growth, multiple acquisitions, patent protection and international matters makes him an ideal fit at Mohawk,” said Jeff Lorberbaum, chairman and CEO of Mohawk Industries, who noted that Mohawk conducted an exhaustive recruitment process to fill the general counsel position.

“As Mohawk has evolved into a total flooring company with distinct business segments and manufacturing in multiple countries, our need for legal expertise on a constantly expanding set of issues has grown exponentially,” he said. “I feel confident that Jim will add depth to our existing team of talented attorneys and provide the counsel we need as we move forward.”
