Daltile, in conjunction with the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Foundation, is sponsoring a new scholarship for interior design students. The Daltile Interior Design Scholarship, presented by the ASID Foundation features a design competition offering a total of $50,000 in scholarship awards.

Daltile and the ASID Foundation are introducing the scholarship and competition at the NeoCon World’s Trade Fair in Chicago, June 13-15. Representatives from Daltile will be on hand to speak about the details of the competition and scholarship at the ASID Career Exchange on Wednesday, June 15 from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. at the Merchandise Mart, 7th Floor Café.

“The ASID Foundation does so much to advance the cause of education and excellence in the interior design industry, and we are proud to be supporting them in those efforts,” said Lori Kirk-Rolley, senior marketing director for Daltile. “Our goal for this scholarship is to not only help students pay for their education, but to inspire them to be more imaginative in their approach to design.”

“We are honored to partner with Daltile on this generous scholarship,” said Michael Alin, Hon. FASID, executive director of the ASID Foundation. “Daltile’s commitment to promoting young designers through creativity and scholarship provides a great opportunity to formally recognize and reward design excellence and talent while broadening the number of scholarships available to interior design students through the ASID Foundation.”

Winners of the Daltile Interior Design Scholarship presented by the ASID Foundation will be chosen based on a design competition in which they must create an original room design inspired by an artistic movement or a specific work of art. The designs must also creatively use Daltile products in the room.

The grand-prize winner of the competition will receive a $10,000 scholarship, and their design will be displayed in the Daltile exhibit at SURFACES 2012, and the student will be Daltile’s guest at SURFACES 2012, January 24-26 in Las Vegas.

First-, Second- and Third-prize winners will each receive a $5,000 scholarship, and ten Merit Winners will each receive $2,500 in scholarships.

To fund the scholarship, Daltile will contribute a percentage of the sales of its top-selling products specified for qualifying installations. To qualify, projects must be a minimum of 1,000 square feet and must be registered by the designer, architect or contractor associated with the project.

The competition begins August 1, 2011, and entries are due by October 15, 2011. Judging will be completed by December 1, 2011. Winners will be announced at SURFACES 2012, held on January 24, 2012.
