Wools of New Zealand and its Wools of New Zealand Brand partner Bloomsburg Carpet joined forces to aid victims of the September 2011 flooding in Pennsylvania. Thanks to a generous donation of 21,000 square yards of woven and tufted carpet, 329 families are now able to re-carpet their once flooded homes. The donation is valued at more than $300,000.

“We were very lucky that our Pennsylvania facility was spared from the flood, and thus were able to help those in our area who were less fortunate,” explains Bloomsburg ceo Thomas Habib. “We felt this donation was the best way we could give back to the people in our state who had suffered from this terrible flood.”

Donations were also made by Bloomsburg’s suppliers, including Bentley Dye Services, Shaw Yarns, Woolen Resources and Atlantic Yarns. All were eager to do something for the area so hard hit by flooding. The result of Tropical Storm Lee, the flooding was the worst in almost 40 years, with the Susquehanna River reaching historic levels. Nearly 100,000 people in the Northeast were forced from their homes.

Located in the Susquehanna Valley of Pennsylvania, Bloomsburg Carpet was founded in 1976.
