The Flooring Contractors Association (FCICA) will hold four educational sessions for its Mid-Year Meeting—Managing Your Profits, being held in Chattanooga, Tenn. Oct. 8 to 10.

Educational sessions include:

Managing On-site Conditions, presented by Tom Lutz, marketing director of the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and director of INSTALL Michigan. Lutz will discuss challenges to managing on-site conditions, as well as, what the IM’s responsibilities include. Followed by, manufacturer installation requirements, how to conduct an initial meeting with the client, maintaining jobsite communications, and the importance of staying on schedule. The session will conclude with a review of the best practices to managing on-site conditions. And don’t forget to bring your questions for the Q&A session. This session will be taped and included as an educational module in the on-line Certified Installation Manager (CIM) program. Those attending will receive credit towards the program.

Managing Materials on the Jobsite, presented by J R Allred, operations manager at Dalton One Carpet. Allred will discuss material acclimation, scheduling, storing both at the warehouse, and on the jobsite, as well as, the accessibility for delivery of materials to the area of installation and how to protect the flooring. The session will conclude with a review of the best practices to managing materials on the jobsite and a Q&A session. This session will be taped and included as an educational module in the on-line Certified Installation Manager (CIM) program. Those attending will receive credit towards the program.

Managing Change Orders, presented by Mike Newberry, vice president of labor operations, Inside Edge Commercial Interior Services. Newberry will discuss how to empower your foreman and what their role is in the management of the project, how to facilitate on-site change orders, and when to take the foreman out of the picture. Then he will cover contract text and defining authorization, deadline management and types of change orders. This session will also conclude with a review of the best practices and a Q&A session. This session will be taped and included as a module in the on-line Certified Installation Manager (CIM) program. Those attending will receive credit towards the program.

Practical Applications for Wood Flooring in the Commercial Market, presented by Brett Miller, director of education and cerrtification, National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA). Miller will review the requirements for a successful wood floor installation including subfloor tolerances, moisture testing requirements and HVAC requirements. Attendees will also gain an understanding of the relationship between water and wood products, solid versus engineered flooring and commercial obstacles in achieving minimum standards. Finally, learn the maintenance requirements for wood flooring in a commercial setting. This session will conclude with a Q&A session.
