Pergo AB parent company Pleiderer Aktiengesellschaft, which
purchased the laminate maker earlier this year, said it has launched an
Intellectual Property Business Unit to manage Pergo’s intellectual assets. This
includes more than 450 granted patents and pending patents, 300 registered
trademarks and trademark applications, and an extensive list of copyrights and
designs, according to the company. Pergo locking systems, its embossed in
register texturing and end block matching and 4in1 molding technologies are
also protected.
Mohawk Industries has brought its environmental efforts
together under one name: Greenworks. Projects including the SmartStrand fiber
made using DuPont Sorona derived from corn to a wide-scale recycling project
aimed at converting nearly 25 percent of all soft drink bottles in the U.S. to
carpet fiber are under the Greenworks umbrella. The program is aimed at helping
“customers, dealers, employees and others to better understand the full scope
of Mohawk’s environmental efforts,” according to the company.
With an eye toward significantly increasing production of
its signature laminate flooring lines, Faus Group said it is investing $20
million into its Calhoun, Ga., plant. Plans call for the company to add a
second milling line designed to expand production by 100 million square feet a
year. Additionally, the company notes that four presses will be added. The planned
additions are expected to be up and running by 2008.
Invista Interiors is seeking entries for the 23rd
annual Antron carpet fiber Design Award, including consideration for Product Innovation
and Sustainable Flooring Performance honors. Deadline for entries is Sept. 14.
Carpet industry pioneer M.B. “Bud” Seretean died Aug. 13 in
London, England, after suffering an aneurysm. He was 83. Remembered by
colleagues as a giant in the industry, Seretean was also a noted philanthropist
and sat on the board of three professional sports teams.
With an eye toward better serving growing markets throughout
Asia, Milliken Floor Covering said it is launching a commercial carpet plant in
the Zhangjiagang province of China. Slated to open by the end of this year, the
plant is part of the company’s new wholly owned subsidiary Milliken Textile
(Zhangjiagang) Co. Ltd.
British Columbia-based distributor Erv Parent has added
Johnsonite’s Linoleum XF line. Erv Parent, which also carries Johnsonite’s
homogeneous and heterogeneous lines, serves the provinces of British Columbia,
Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba, Yukon and the Northwest Territories.
