The National Wood Flooring Association’s 15th Annual Convention — held March 31- April 3 at the Adam’s Mark Hotel in Dallas — brought together manufacturers, distributors, contractors, and installers from around the world to share their ideas and experiences in the wood flooring industry.

The four-day event saw more than 230 companies present a full array of wood flooring products and services in what convention organizers proudly declared to be “the largest NWFA product showcase ever.”

Fulfilling the event’s “Connection 2000” theme, the NWFA convened a number of professional speakers to help convention attendees increase their business opportunities, including some well-known figures from the world of sports. Former Miami Dolphins running back Larry Csonka kicked off the convention with his take on “Commitment to Excellence,” and Pittsburgh Steelers great Rocky Bleier helped to bring the event to a close, reminding everyone to continue “Pushing Your Limits.”

“It is a very good show, very upbeat,” declared Andy Pastor of Satin Finish Hardwood Flooring. “There are more products (than before), more companies — all around a very good show.”

Attendance at all the seminars was high. The panel assembled for Troubleshooting, Sand & Finish played to a standing-room-only crowd, addressing a wide variety of issues, including streaks, chatter marks and waves; swirl marks; trash in the finish; and the recent introduction of aluminum oxide finishes into the marketplace.

Attendees were also privy to a demonstration of the NWFA Advanced School. Professional instructors gave the audience a taste of the various programs offered at the school, including borders, inlays, and approaches to both engineered and solid hardwood floor installations.

Connection 2000 marked a special milestone in the history of the NWFA. For the first time, the NWFA awarded certifications to technicians who have attained a predetermined level of excellence and professionalism. After four years in development, the first NWFA Certification Awards were presented in both the Sand & Finish and Installation categories, with many recipients receiving both certifications.

The NWFA Convention 2001 is tentatively scheduled for April 25-28, 2001 at the Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs, CA.
