The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.-based hardwood supplier Max Windsor has enlisted a well known veteran of the flooring business in its bid to establish a “national footprint.”  Peter Spirer, an original inductee to the WFCA Floor Covering Industry Hall of Fame, has joined the company as National Marketing Manager with responsibility for the Northeast, Southeast, and Midwest area as well as national retailer associations and big box retailers including Home Depot and Lowe’s. A long time business partner of Spirer’s, Bob Rawlins is developing distribution in the Western states, the Rocky Mountains, Texas and Oklahoma.

Spirer is most widely recognized for his success in establishing Horizon Industries, which he founded in 1972. He served as the company’s CEO and Chairman (Rawlins was the vp of the Western Region for many years) and is credited with building the company into one of the top carpet manufacturers in the world. In 1992 Horizon was acquired by Mohawk Industries.

After joining Max Windsor in January of this year, Spirer and Rawlins began to roll out their program at Surfaces. “We knew we had a wonderful product line from the get-go, but we were pleasantly surprised by the tremendous acceptance we had at Surfaces.” says Spirer. “We far exceeded our goals for new account openings, and subsequently, we have been successful in penetrating new geographies for the company.”

He adds that he is now in the process of appointing sales representatives throughout the country and expects to have 25 territories in place by the close of 2008, each managed by trained sales pros.

“Bob and I are impressed with Max Windsor Floor’s vision and energy.” Spirer continued. “After four years of enormous success in California, Nevada and Arizona, management is dedicated to establish a national footprint and strong brand recognition. This is the challenge which we have happily accepted.  We are determined to do our part in fulfilling the company’s goals.”
