The American Society of Interior Designers has announced it will launch a new ASID National Conference in conjunction with NeoCon 2009. Both shows are set for June 15-17 at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago.
As reported previously by NFT, the World Floor Covering Association plans to give away $50,000 in 50 $1,000 prizes during Surfaces 2009. Designed to call attention to the group's 50th anniversary, the giveaways are only one part of the celebration set for the Feb. 3-5 show in Las Vegas, according to the WFCA.

Alfonso Panzani, chairman of Italy's Confindustria Ceramica trade group, told attendees on hand at Cersaie 2008 that the United States' influence in driving world demand for ceramic products is fading. "Although the United States has driven the world's economy for the past 15 years, we now need to look toward other markets," he said during his address at the Cersaie trade show in Bologna, Italy. "We should not be afraid of the future," he added.
CLARK Flooring Solutions, a
Pittsburgh, Pa.-based distributor, announced that they have entered into a
merger and acquisition agreement with L. Fishman and Son, Inc., a company
headquartered in Baltimore, Md.
The closing of this agreement is planned to occur in early Nov. 2008. Both
firms are highly regarded sundry supply distributors to the flooring trade.
Mohawk said it will raise prices 5 percent on laminate and from 4 to 10 percent on ceramic products beginning Sept. 8. The company noted it recently sent out a letter announcing the planned increases to dealers.

Patricia Flavin, Beaulieu's sr. vp marketing for marketing, speaks to sales staff, call center operators and other Beaulieu staffers about the company's recently launched Bliss carpet brand. Bliss by Beaulieu is residential carpet "designed by women for women," according to the company. Flavin noted that the training aimed to update staffers "on the Bliss promise and how that translates to enhanced service for dealers and their customers." More than 4,300 Bliss dislays have been shipped to dealers across the country so far, she added.
The National Tile Contractors Association has welcomed its first four contractors into the trade group's Five Star Program. Designed to recognize those committed to enhancing training, service, quality, job performance and safety, the four contractors will receive a logo for their letterhead, a marketing piece, and special inclusion in the NTCA online member locator.
Mohawk is set to launch the largest number of hardwood looks in the company's history. Fueled by the company's purchase of Columbia Wood Flooring last year, Mohawk said it plans to roll out more than 150 hardwood SKUs through the year. Additionally, the company has debuted a new installation system and support materials for the line.
