Harri

The mural will permanently adorn the South Entrance of the Orange
County Convention Center in Orlando.
The Ceramic Tile Distributors Association said it has received "enthusiastic responses from CTDA members" for the 2008 CTDA China Ceramic Tile Trade Mission set for June 18-29. The group has already confirmed 33 participants for the event, which will include visits to factories, showrooms at some of China's top ceramic-producing areas and is set to feature networking and forums with some of China's top ceramic tile experts.
Vitromex has launched V+, a line of granite tile designed to aid the visually impaired. The tile is offered in two surfaces, round and lined, that feature markings to alert the blind to an upcoming traffic crossing or a change in street level.
The World Floor Covering Association is asking floor covering retailers to contribute their 2007 financial results for a report that will enable participants to compare information. In addition to traditional showroom retailers (including those involved in commercial and contract work) the WFCA is seeking input from installers, cleaners, and inspectors. The information provided will be reported only in aggregate totals and will not be disclosed individually.
Hardwood manufacturer Harris Wood said it is teaming with Design Flooring Distributors to re-launch the Harris brand and to distribute Harris Wood products in Florida. The Pompano Beach, Fla.-based distributor becomes the first distributor to operate exclusively under the aegis of Harris Wood and will serve retail clients from its headquarters and its branch facility in Orlando. The announcement was made by Matthew Galvez, CEO of ArborCraft which is the parent company of the Jackson City, Tenn.-based Harris Wood.
“We are excited about the opportunity to work with Design Flooring Distributors because of their niche leadership in quality and wood flooring design.” said Galvez. “At Harris Wood, we continue to focus on growth through rebuilding good partnerships and getting back to the venerable roots that comprise the foundation of the company.”
Mohawk
Industries has informed state officials in Georgia
of plans to close a filament carpet yarn plant that employs 366 people in Dahlonega,
Ga. in June, affecting 366 workers. The
Georgia Dept. of Labor announced the closing on its web site and noted that it will
provide transitional services to laid-off workers. Mohawk officials were
unavailable for comment at press time.
The Flowcrete
Group, a Manchester, England-based maker of commercial flooring, has been
acquired by RPM, a U.S.-based holding company whose products
include Rust-Oleum, Day-Glo, Stonhard and DAP. Plans call for Flowcrete to
operate as a “stand-alone business” under its current management team. In addition
to its namesake Flowcrete line, it will continue to market the brands Flowfresh,
Isocrete, Deckshield and Mondeco, which are predominately used in manufacturing
plants and other heavy traffic environments. Terms of the deal where not disclosed.
Avalon Carpet
Tile and Flooring has named Maryanne Adams president and CEO. She succeeds Avalon owner and
president John P. Millar who died of a
heart attack March 16. Adams has been with Avalon for over 20 years
and served as executive vice president for the past 12 years.
