Mannington Mills has signed an agreement with China-based Elegant Living to create a line of hardwood products for the Chinese market that will be sold under the Mannington name. Additionally, the company will distribute Mannington's U.S.-made flooring products throughout the country. The deal includes more than 500 retail stores across China, and will be phased in throughout the year. Other terms were not disclosed.
IVC US Inc. was named Carpet One Partner of the Year at the recent Carpet One Floor & Home winter convention in Irving, Texas. The Dalton, Ga.-based company's cushion backed sheet vinyl was chosen from a pool of vendor products by members for "its realistic natural look and ease of installation and removal," according to IVC. Xavier Steyaert, IVC US's president and CEO, accepted the award during a special presentation before the official opening of the show.
The North American Laminate Flooring Association (NALFA) has named Torlys Smart Floors as one of a select group of Lammy Award winners for 2009. Torlys was voted this year’s winner of the Regular Member Company of the Year. This year’s Lammy award winners were announced at the NALFA press conference at Surfaces in Las Vegas.
A proposal stemming from the work of the American Home Furnishings and
Building Products Coalition, an industry coalition looking to jumpstart
the home furnishings market, was recently defeated by Congress. The
proposal, which would have set up a system of tax credits, deductions
and incentives to boost home improvement spending, was left on the
cutting room floor as lawmakers haggled over the particulars of a
proposed $789 billion stimulus package to boost the economy.

raised $2,000 during a recent gala celebrating the group's 50th anniversary.
During the event, LIFCA also honored 34 dealers, contractors and cleaning
companies that have been in business for at least half a century.
Margaret Vogel Hall, widely considered one of the driving forces behind the Carpet Manufacturers Association of the West, died Feb. 4 due to complications from rheumatoid arthritis. She was 80.
Former Mannington executive David E. Thoresen has joined LG Floors as executive vp. "My biggest challenge," the flooring veteran said of his new position, "is developing a strategy to maximize the organization we already have in place. A consistent approach and strategy is all that's missing."
For its Antron brand Studio showroom in Chicago's Merchandise Mart, Invista recently received LEED Gold certification for Commercial Interiors. The showroom, created by Design Collaboratives, Inc. of Chicago, features a multi-use, transformable space similar to a theater stage and uses many of the original 1983 finishes and furniture.
Against a backdrop of economic uncertainty, Surfaces 2009, which wrapped up today at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas, will be remembered as an important show for attendees and exhibitors alike. While attendance is estimated to be lower than last year, show goers said there was an upside as well in the form of longer face time for customers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers to conduct business.
