Mohawk's sixth annual national spring sale, Colors of Spring, is running now through May 3. Designed for aligned dealers, including those participating in the Mohawk Floorscapes, ColorCenter and Floorz programs, the sales event will be promoted with point of purchase materials, online support and a range of national advertising on cable channels and print advertising in consumer shelter publications. Colors of Spring will also feature "no payments and no interest until April 2010" finance offer and a consumer sales incentive.
Mohawk Industries is launching a major, in-store advertising campaign to promote its use of Dow Flooring’s latex carpet backing made using LOMAX Technology. The technology is made in a plant that uses methane gas collected from a nearby landfill for power, creating a durable and green latex backing according to Dow. The system relies on renewable energy sources, and is aimed at reducing emissions.
Foamex International has launched its new website at www.foamex.com. Designed to offer improved navigation along with graphics "that better portray Foamex’s leading role in foam technology and solutions," the website also features information on Foamex’s entire product line, according to Foamex.
Patricia Flavin, senior vp marketing for Beaulieu of America, has been named vice chairman of the Carpet and Rug Institute's Marketing Issues committee. She is the first woman in the organization's more than 30-year history to hold a chairmanship.
Bona US will receive a 25th annual Golden Hammer Award at the upcoming National Hardware Show on May 5 in Las Vegas. Presented by Home Channel News, the award is voted on by about 500 retailers covering a range of product categories. The recognition, which is aimed at honoring Bona's floor care products and service, will mark the second time Bona has received this award.
Orcon said it plans to exit the flooring industry after
close to 40 years and will shut down its flooring installation products
division by May 22. The company noted it will refocus on its aerospace
division, which makes reinforced films, tapes, and thermal/acoustic insulation
components and fabricated systems for the aerospace, transportation and
industrial markets.
Citing decreased consumer demand for flooring in the wake of a soft housing market, Shaw Industries said it will close two of its carpet plants in Georgia. Specifically, Shaw plans to close Plant 07, a spun yarn facility in Calhoun, and Plant WL, a filament yarn plant in Valdosta. The closures, which are expected in the next several weeks, will affect about 600 employees, the company said.
Flooring distributor Galleher Corp. has opened a new branch in Las Vegas. The 8,700 sq. ft. site is designed to serve the area's residential and commercial flooring contractors and retailers with a full line of hard surface flooring and accessory products.
The Federal Trade Commission has created a new label
for Mohawk and DuPont’s PTT fiber, which was formerly recognized as polyester. The
new subclass, triexta, aims to show that PTT and polyester “share little more
than a similar chemical structure,” according to Mohawk. Mohawk’s SmartStrand
carpets are made from triexta, which is marketed by DuPont under the trademark Sorona.
