Col. Alvin B. "Al" Lee will give the keynote at the upcoming National
Disaster Reconstruction (NDR) Conference & Expo, set for June 17-18
in New Orleans. Lee, the New Orleans District's 60th commander and
district engineer, is involved with appropriations exceeding $7 billion
for hurricane restoration. His jurisdiction covers waterways, levees
and floodwalls, navigation locks, six major flood control structures
and other projects designed to protect coastal wetlands.
Tarkett has increased the recycled content in its commercial tile products and has adopted a new set of initiatives designed to ensure its products and manufacturing practices "continue to become more sustainable." The new initiative, called Balanced Choice. evaluates the product’s quality, reliability and product life benefits by focusing on resource stewardship, raw materials, "people-friendly" benefits, and recycling.

Mannington Mills is gearing up for its annual Art is Cool and Stand On A Better World Scholarship projects designed to help students in the community. Entering its sixth year, the Art is Cool contest gives Salem County, N.J.-based high school students a chance to showcase their artwork, which is judged by a panel of Mannington design professionals. Additionally, the fourth annual Standing On A Better World Scholarship program provides financial assistance to Salem County students looking to go to college.
Cikel America LLC has announced a wholesale distribution partnership with Century Flooring Distributors of Miami. The company will stock and distribute Cikel’s FSC certified exotic Brazilian hardwood flooring products to dealers in Florida, Latin America and the Caribbean Islands.
Professional Flooring Supply has added three new branches and expanded its business to service Colorado, Idaho and Utah. The distributor opened a branch in Denver last month and branches in Salt Lake City and Idaho Falls last week, for a total of 14 locations in seven states.
Chilean wood panel company ATC Panels, in partnership with a private equity group led by the Fairbanks family, has completed the purchase of Tarkett's equity share in Clarion Industries, a joint venture between the two companies. Clarion announced it has appointed Tony Sturrus, the former president and CEO of Pergo, as president of the newly restructured Shippenville, Pa.-based company.

Tarkett Inc. and Chilean wood panel company Aconcagua Timber
(ATC) said they will restructure the ownership of their wood panel and laminate
joint venture. Specifically, ATC and its investors will acquire Tarkett's
equity share in the joint venture, and Tarkett will make ATC its preferred partner
for the supply of laminate flooring products in North America.
In a move that is set to create America's largest homebuilding company, Pulte Homes said it will purchase the nearly 60-year-old Centex Corp. in a $1.3 billion stock-for-stock transaction. The deal, which also includes $1.8 billion in net debt, will result in a combined company that will remain headquartered at Pulte's Bloomfield Hills, Mich, office. Additionally, "the company plans to maintain a significant presence in Dallas" where Centex is based, according to Pulte.
