The Ceramic Tile Education Foundation (CTEF) offered tile installers the opportunity to become CTEF Certified Tile Installers (CTIs) during Coverings 2009. Daltile recruited the majority of the candidates to be tested and donated the materials necessary for the hands-on portion of CTI testing, including membranes, backer board, thin-set, grout and flexible sealants.
A four-year-old lawsuit against DuPont Co., claiming the company's non-stick Teflon cookware is unsafe, has been dropped. U.S. District Court Judge Ronald Longstaff, presiding on the U.S. District Court in Des Moines, Iowa, signed a dismissal order on May 1, DuPont said. The class action case comprises 22 cases in 15 states.
Beaulieu of America is planning two upcoming sales for dealers. In its La Mirada, Calif., warehouse, Bliss carpet will be featured during the pithily named “Earthquake Clearance Sale” on May 15. Additionally, at its Chicago warehouse in Bolingbrook, Ill., Beaulieu will host a “Spring Stimulus Spectacular” on June 10-11.
Shaw Industries was the Winner of this year's EPA/CARE Innovations in Recycling award. The honor is in recognition of Shaw's Evergreen plant in Augusta, Ga., which has recycled more than 220 million pounds of post-consumer nylon 6 carpet and more than 36 million pounds of post-consumer carpet filler since the plant opened two years ago.

The company was honored for its GreenWorks Post-Consumer Recycling Center, which converts post-consumer carpet into engineered resins that can be used in a broad range of post-consumer products.
An independent laboratory test done by Centaur Technologies in Calhoun, Ga., has found that carpet treated with Beaulieu's Magic Fresh "sharply and rapidly" decreases the odor of pet urine. Carpet samples treated with Magic Fresh and carpet left untreated were both subjected to equal amounts of pet urine to test the carpets' odor-control properties. “The results were even more dramatic than we expected,” said Jeff Meadows, exec vp, Beaulieu of America.
Valinge Innovation has signed a global license agreement with Cikel Brasil Verde Madeiras LTDA, a Brazilian manufacturer of wood floors, for use of Valinge's 2G mechanical locking system. Cikel owns more than one million acres of timberland, is FSC certified, and has representatives and offices in Brazil, the U.S. and Europe.
The U.S. Green Building Council has accepted the GREENGUARD Children & Schools standard for LEED credits. Specifically, all GREENGUARD Children & Schools certified products, which includes flooring and insulation, can earn LEED points.

America), has been selected by the Tile Partners for Humanity (TPFH) as the
recipient of its first annual Tile Partner of the Year Award.
The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI Inc.) will host a webinar on
SFI Labels & Claims, 1 to 2 p.m. EST, May 14. Jason Metnick,
SFI Inc.'s director of market access and product labeling, will discuss
the company's on-product labels and off-product marks and logos, as
well as SFI's rules for using the labels and claims.
