Tarkett has signed an agreement with the Brussels-based Etex Group to purchase Fademac, a leading resilient flooring maker and distribution partner in Brazil with annual sales of approximately $35 million. The move is aimed at growing Tarkett's commercial and residential presence in South America. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Fran O'Neill, co-founder and vp sales for Antrim Carpets, has retired. O'Neill along with Dan McGovern founded Antrim in 1997. O'Neill started as a salesman for carpeting manufacturer Beatty Carpet in the early '70s, before joining Karastan and rising through the ranks to become exec vp sales and marketing, residential. He has also worked as sr. vp sales and marketing for resilient maker Congoleum.

As the price of homes fall across California, the California Association of Realtors reported an increase of 100.8 percent in existing, single-family home sales in January compared to last year. Additionally, sales in the state were up 14 percent over last month, indicating a slow reversal of the housing slump.

Florida Tile and ProSpec have signed an agreement naming Florida Tile the official distributor of the ProSpec brand in all Florida Tile branch locations and markets. Additionally, both companies will partner for a series of joint ProSpec/Florida Tile marketing programs to be conducted at all Florida Tile locations.
Armstrong Floor Products, INSTALL and the Carpenters International Training Fund are partnering to offer a joint certification for commercial resilient flooring installation. Specifically, the agreement recognizes both INSTALL curriculum provider CITF and Armstrong's training for certification purposes.
Greg Jones, Mohawk Industries' senior environmental engineer, has been
elected to the Board of Directors of the Georgia Industry Environmental
Coalition for 2009. Formed in 1992, the GIEC is a non-profit group of
environmentally regulated businesses in Georgia. Its members advocate
regulations that are "both protective and cost-efficient."
The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) is seeking candidates to take on the position of a paid, full-time president. The IICRC has named a search committee aimed at finding the most qualified person to lead the organization. The committee hopes to present a candidate for IICRC board approval by the middle of May.
Beaulieu of America held an invitation-only luncheon for members of the consumer media during the recent Surfaces show in Las Vegas. Writers and editors from some of the biggest shelter magazines were invited, including Better Homes and Gardens and Good Housekeeping. Also in attendance was D. Christopher Davis, president and CEO of the World Floor Covering Association, and Werner Braun, president of the Carpet and Rug Institute.
