Shaw Industries said it will kick off its fourth annual Kathy Ireland flooring promotion Sept. 1. Running through Oct. 16, the "Fall Flooring Days" event will include incentives for both retail salespeople and consumers, according to Shaw. Plans call for Kathy Ireland carpet, ceramic, laminate and area rugs to be featured in the promotion.
Basing its decision on "years of carpet cleaning research," Shaw Industries announced that it plans to revise its residential carpet warranties with stricter cleaning guidelines. Slated to take effect Jan. 1, the new revisions will require the routine use of carpet cleaning products certified under the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Seal of Approval program. In a related announcement, the carpet maker said it will require the use of Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) certified firms for professional carpet cleaning services beginning in 2008.
China's fast-growing hardwood flooring industry will be the focus of a four-day meeting that is expected to include presentations from a number of individuals active in the U.S. market. Scheduled for Nov. 8-11, the China Wood Flooring Export & Import Conference will begin with a two-day conference at the Lake Malaren Golf Resort in Shanghai followed by product showcases and tours of manufacturing facilities in the area.
David Duncan has been named vp marketing for Mohawk Residential. He succeeds Ed Williams, senior vp marketing, who recently retired. Duncan, a 15-year industry veteran, will oversee general marketing, advertising, merchandising and training for all segments of Mohawk Residential.
Four major trade organizations are joining forces to bring tile professionals two free events outlining the progress of the tile industry. The National Tile Contractors Association, Tile Contractors Association of America, International Masonry Institute and International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers will present "Embracing Change in the Tile Industry" Oct. 18 and 19 at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown and the Merchandise Mart of Chicago respectively.
After nearly six years in bankruptcy as a result of asbestos-related litigation, Armstrong World Industries said it expects to emerge from Chapter 11 protection in Q4 of 2006. The statement came following a decision by U.S. District Court Judge Eduardo Robreno confirming Armstrong's fourth amended plan of reorganization, dated Feb. 21, 2006. The Lancaster, Penn.-based company said that a formal confirmation order should soon be entered by the District Court.

The floor maker is seeking nominations for its second annual "Stand On A Better World" Awards in three categories: Social, (helping people improve their quality of life), Economic, (improving the economic situation of a group or person), and Environmental (preserving our country's natural resources.) Any woman who is a citizen of either the U.S. or Canadian can be nominated. There are no age restrictions.

The World Floor Covering Association is seeking luminaries in the flooring business for one of the industry's greatest honors: induction into the Floor Covering Industry Hall of Fame. Now through Nov. 10, the WFCA is accepting applications for potential induction into this veritable Who's Who of the industry. Currently, the Hall of Fame honors the achievements of 32 distinguished inductees who have aimed to better both the industry and their communities.
