Floor Trends was on site for the first retailer-led, five-week International Certified Flooring Installers (CFI) training in Grand Rapids, Michigan, hosted by DeGraaf Interiors. Five students received scholarships through the Floor Covering Education Foundation (FCEF) with the other half of the tuition covered by DeGraaf and another area retailer. 

Attendees of the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) share a bright outlook for the wood industry in 2023. 

An updated wood species technical publication by NWFA provides critical foundational knowledge for architects, interior designers, builder, flooring contractor and homeowner when specifying the most appropriate species of wood flooring for a project.

While the outlook in 2023 is cautiously optimistic, challenges such as supply chain disruptions, labor shortages, inflation, the housing market, and economic uncertainty remain. 

"Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young,” said Henry Ford. In March, the Certified Flooring Installers association put on multiple trainings in Nashville, Tennessee at Buddy Allen Carpet One Floor & Home where a wide range of ages, ethnicities and experience levels came together for one purpose—to learn.
